Sweet potatoes may be something new to us. Maybe a food we didn’t grow up with as kids. Often when we try something new, we can have lots of questions or maybe even avoid making it altogether. Such as how long you bake sweet potatoes in the oven and do you scrub them ahead of time.
No need to worry. We’ll cover that all here today. You can begin to realize that sweet potatoes can be a really satisfying and filling side. The addition of a baked sweet potato can also make a boring salad feel more inspiring and filling.
Sweet potatoes come in all different colors throughout the world from orange that you may often see in grocery stores to yellow and even purple. Sweet potatoes are a great alternative from regular russet potatoes.
You can enjoy baked sweet potatoes in the oven in just 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 425 F / 218 C. Then rinse and scrub sweet potatoes to remove any excess dirt. You’ll keep the sweet potato skins on.
Slice the sweet potato in half lengthwise. Drizzle olive oil on the cut side. Sprinkle salt and pepper.
Place face down on the baking tray. Bake the sweet potatoes in the oven for 30 minutes.
You’ll note that there is no need to use aluminum foil to bake sweet potatoes. We’re keeping it simple over here.
Then transfer to a plate and enjoy with another drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle of salt and pepper. The salt helps enhance the flavors. You may enjoy drizzling my homemade chimichurri sauce on top. It comes together in minutes and adds a ton of flavor to the baked sweet potatoes.
