How do you make a smoothie without yogurt or cow’s milk? The answer is simple. First, start with a smoothie base and liquid.

A base is the heart of your smoothie that consists of frozen or fresh fruit. For a cool creamy smoothie, purchase a bunch of bananas and let them sit for a day or two to ripen and become sweeter.

Then, chop each banana into six pieces. This way you’ll know how many pieces are in one banana. Place the bananas in the freezer ahead of time.
When you make your smoothie with a frozen banana, try to complement it with fresh fruit. Note that any fruit you have on hand works well.

Next, you need a liquid. Liquids are essential for blending your smoothies to a good consistency. You can use nut milks such as almond milk and coconut milk. Water and coconut water are also great options. Make sure to select an unsweetened product.

WHY MAKE A SMOOTHIE WITHOUT YOGURT

You don’t need to be vegan or lactose intolerant to reap the benefits of a smoothie without yogurt. The truth is that dairy is a challenge to digest on its own and when combined with fruit, you can experience bloating and other unpleasant symptoms.

Fruit digests very quickly whereas dairy does not. Dairy can create heaviness in the body and inflammation. Not exactly how you want to start your day.

When we start looking at things in a different way, we can see that there are a lot of alternatives to achieving a creamy smoothie without the need for dairy. And the best part is that you’ll feel good while eating a smoothie without yogurt.

Soooooo good! This was also my first time being brave enough to try coconut milk. I’m very hesitant when it comes to trying new foods. I’ve heard of almond milk but I’ve never tried it in a smoothie until now. Thank you for inspiring me Em. I’ll definitely be adding it to all of my morning smoothies!

Thanks for sharing this Julie! And coconut milk and almond milk are brilliant to use in smoothies. I started out adding them to smoothies and slowly added them to soups, breads, desserts, you name it. Xoxo EM
